Abstraction

“Hail Mary, Mother of God. Got the whole host of angels in my ipod.” -Saul Williams.

What or who dictates the way we live-our culture? Where does it come from? Does it emergence stem from the autonomous expression of people’s interests or imposed by those in position of power maybe as a form of social control?

Quick on the uptake and time fades off with the dawning and dusking of the sun. Culture snaps off at the tap of fingers like magical trail unveils desires of every sort both guided and unguided. The tour de force discoveries; no-doubt, a technological age it is, but this hybridity form of life gradually erodes the real thing.

Singers lip syncing in public because they are afraid to use their own, unmediated voices; Facebook steadily eroding the real concept of friendship, human-machine defining the dictates and borders of our everyday lives. A pity to say that reality now lives on virtual means-What an OXYMORON!

People now consume everything, I mean everything without any form of halt or caution as long as it seems consumable. Sometimes, not necessarily to quench thirst or desires but (I really don’t know!) – compulsive maybe, or due to the willingness of personal subjections or lack of will to refrain. This attractive, beautiful but fad and mirage sophistication proceeds

from accumulated store of products such as music, art, literature, fashion, dance, films, television and radio. We fellowship with them daily; both elite and non-elite groups. In turn they whisper to our minds and translate their motives through our actions and by so doing are successful with their intentions.

On the global plane, there is an attempt to create a uniform thinking, a mode of living, a one idea system. What could be so powerful that transmit its neurons and gets us connected to its nervous system thus, making us infirmed to our normal use of common sense? The world indeed has metamorphosed into a terrain of ideological struggle, where the elites (who tend to control the mass media and culture outlets) control those below them by dulling people’s minds, making them passive and easy to manipulate through various forms such as music, art, literature, fashion, dance, films, etc. and the use of abstract virtuosity. It’s a mind drilling process, a distortion of identity…a mind control…yeah, that’s the word-MIND CONTROL. It’s called POPULAR CULTURE or in style, ‘Pop-Culture’.

When culture is defined, perspectives are defined. That translates into how life should be lived. For a generation like mine that believes in diverse philosophical theories that “reality is made up of many kinds of beings and substances”, she flowers her cultural freedom and unknown to her, imitate the lifestyle imposed everywhere nowadays as the only possible way of life.

Pop culture has undermined national and local cultures. The same now sells within and across our minds. It’s so interesting to know that the West has an agenda to fund…but we, not any. The most output of our movie industry communicates lethal culture, music empty and unhealthy…no interest of national values, non-engaging entertainment just all about cash, flashes and booty (buttocks) oriented.

HOW DID WE GET HERE?

We are yet to incorporate more of this culture and until we craft a culture- a default, our own rhythm that dictates a life devoid of influences by the popular culture, we will however, be subjects and tools of its dominance. Watch it, cork it or it will consume you.
